Lawrence Chen is a Singaporean singer, songwriter and live performer known for his distinctive vocal tone and heartfelt stage presence. He brings a rich background in singing, songwriting, music production and theatre to his teaching, helping students discover both their voice and their confidence.

Education & Musical Training

• Began learning piano at a young age

• Completed an MBA in the United States, with a minor in vocal studies and theatre performance

• Passionate about literature, music production, musical theatre and composition

Professional Experience

• Finalist and first runner-up in the 2016 Golden Years singing competition

• Represented Singapore in the 2017 Astro Classic Songs International Singing Competition, reaching the final eight

• Awarded Asia Top 5 at the Beijing Variety Festival 2019

• Invited to perform in multiple solo concerts at Esplanade venues

• Guest judge for the Superstar 2020 International Singing Competition

• Released his original international album, Moonlight Forest, in 2021

• Submitted his work for consideration in the Best Song and Best Album categories of Taiwan’s 2022 Golden Melody Awards

• Presented the sold-out 2.5-hour solo concert 月下倾诉 at Victoria Theatre with orchestral accompaniment

Teaching Approach

Lawrence believes that learning music, vocal technique and stage performance is not only about singing for an audience, competition or entertainment. It is also a journey of building self-confidence, self-assurance and the courage to express who you are.

He encourages students to recognise their own abilities and strengths, and to enjoy the wonderful process of growing through music.

Musical Inspiration

Lawrence is inspired by singer Li Jian (李健), not only for his voice, but also for his personality, character and humility.

His favourite song is his original work, 月光森林, which he submitted for consideration at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards.
