Sim Hong Rui

Meet Hong Rui; a passionate vocal teacher, independent artist, and creative producer with extensive experience in live performance, band leadership, and grassroots music outreach.

His musical journey began at 13, when he won first place in his school’s talent show. Since then, his passion for music has continued to grow, driving him toward his goals as both a singer-songwriter and video producer. At 16, he picked up his first guitar and began writing songs; at 18, he clinched second place in the group performance section of 星空下; by 20, he had formed his own band, 無常樂 (Impermanence), bringing together a group of equally passionate musicians to create their own brand of indie rock and pop.

Impermanence has since started making waves in the local indie scene, performing alongside bands such as Goose 我鳥 and Homeless Scholars 流浪學者. Their second release 成人禮 also caught the attention of Spotify Taiwan, earning editorial playlist placements.

Beyond the band, Hong Rui is committed to community-focused performances, including the International Women’s Day Celebration (2024) at Boon Lay CC and New Year’s Eve Celebrations (2024, 2025) at Our Tampines Hub. He also actively performs in live venues across the country, bringing real-world experience into his teaching.

As a creative producer, he extends his artistry beyond the stage, producing films and music videos that complement and elevate his music—establishing himself as a versatile, all-rounded creative voice in the scene.
